Bournemouth Gramophone Society

Previous Highlights

1997 was the Golden Jubilee Year for the Society. The highlight of the season was a talk by the renowned British Tenor, Nigel Douglas. Nigel has appeared in many roles and has lately worked with  Welsh National Opera. He is also a renowned broadcaster and author. His two books, 'Legendary Voices', give a very personal insight in to the lives and careers of some of the greatest voices of the past. There is also a CD, available from Nimbus Records, to supplement the volumes.  Nigel Douglas made a return visit in 2002.

Robert Angles, former Marketing Manager for RCA is a regular contributor to our programmes. In 2002 he presented an evening dedicated to the recorded works of Koussevitzy.

John Steane, Author and contributor to Gramophone magazine

Vic Bellerby, Jazz record producer for ASV who previously  worked for 25 years with Decca.

Valerie Masterson, CBE visited the Society in March 2004 and delighted the members with the story of her career. A very charming, humerous and musical evening reflecting the personal qualities of this great soprano.
